The pharmacy support aide works under the general direction of a pharmacy manager or coordinator and is an integral member of the pharmacy team. This person will be supervised at all times by clinical pharmacists and licensed pharmacy technicians. The primary duties will include cleaning various work areas according to regulatory compliance and assisting with non-licensure required pharmacy tasks. Non-licensure tasks may include answering phones, collecting and filing paperwork, auditing daily tasks in electronic tracking software, participating in billing activities, participating in regulatory auditing, participating in daily huddles and meetings to stay current with pharmacy operations.
High School diploma (or G.E.D. equivalent).
Experience with computers and typing skills required.
Legible handwriting and/or printing.
Numerical comprehension and mathematical skills.
Ability to communicate verbally, comprehend verbal instructions, and have good telephone etiquette.
Good vision, manual dexterity, and physical ability to stand the majority of the time.
Health care experience desired.  One (1) – two (2) years of pharmacy experience preferred.

  1. Assists with billing as needed.
  1. Scans and organizes patient and business documents for departments within the pharmacy.
  1. Organizes and stocks various parts of the pharmacy.
  1. Records meeting minutes at every Pharmacy Department meeting.
  1. Hand delivers medications to nurses or med rooms when needed.
  1. Documents specific daily, weekly, and monthly activities in Pharmacy Keeper program and follows up on past due activities.
  1. Cleans IV rooms following strict regulatory procedures.
  1. Performs general housekeeping continually to maintain a neat, clean, professional appearing environment in the main Basement Pharmacy, B2 Pharmacy, OR Pharmacy, and ER Pharmacy.
  1. Assists with various department audits as assigned.
  1. Performs secretarial duties as requested.
  1. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary
Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of a computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying of light loads (up to 40lbs), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions, and stooping or kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); walking or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able to physically operate the equipment used for the job.
Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods; work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff; handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule; set priorities and solve problems; respond quickly to emergency requests; communicate effectively (orally and in writing) and assist in meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of the patients.
Potential for exposure to infectious patients or materials and hazardous and toxic substances (including chemotherapy, cytotoxic drugs, and cleaning solutions); potential for sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items; potential for musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used.

  • Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and team members; demonstrations good oral and written communication
  • Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members; assists coworkers in tasks, as time permits.
  • Works cooperatively with all staff members; voices concerns and suggestions to appropriate persons in an appropriate manner
  • Demonstrates sound judgement consistent with training/academic background
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information; complies with HIPAA Privacy Rule standards
  • Adheres to health-system policies and procedures; complies with all requirements related to risk-management, safety, medication-use safety, security, fire safety, and infection control; complies with all applicable federal/state/local laws, rules, and regulations; performs all duties under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacists
