Exercise Specialist - Health Connection

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Reports to the Manistee Health & Fitness Manager and is responsible for oversight and implementation of exercise programs and fitness services, according to established policies and procedures.  Works independently in overseeing Health Connection operations and providing support to members and referred patients.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Proactively communicates and responds to a broad range of members including diverse age groups and mentally or physically disabled members.

 

  1. Orients new members to facility operations and equipment and provides facility oversight.

 

  1. Develops and conducts individual and/or group exercise activities; facilitates and instructs members in the skills necessary to successfully participate.

 

  1. Tracks members' progress toward exercise goals and suggests alternatives to assist in meeting goals.

 

  1. Provides educational programs concerning fitness to members, students, MHMH staff, and community groups.

 

  1. Remains abreast of developments in the field of health and fitness and maintains professional skills through participation in appropriate education/development activities and review of professional literature.

 

  1. Participates, as appropriate, in quality process improvement of the hospital.

 

  1. Performs job responsibilities in an ethical, compliant manner consistent with the organization's values and the Hospital's Corporate Compliance program, policies, procedures and protocols.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

  1. Encourages subordinates and works in a safe and healthy manner to prevent injury or illness.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily required through completion of two to four years of college level training in physical fitness, exercise, rehabilitation, health education or closely related field, and/or certified as personal trainer or group fitness through professional organization.

 

  1. A minimum of one to two years of progressive experience in exercise, rehabilitation, or fitness related field.

 

  1. BLS certification (American Heart Association).

 

  1. Ability to design and implement effective and safe exercise programs based on member's goals, physician's diagnosis, and/or member assessment.

 

  1. Lifestyle consistent with a health promotion philosophy.
