SUMMARY:


This position supports the mission and vision of the inpatient rehab and behavioral health departments by providing care to the patients served on these units.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

 

Bachelors degree in therapeutic recreation required.  Masters degree preferred.

 

Professional organization certificate required.

 

One-year therapeutic recreation preferred with knowledge of and experience with behavioral health and adaptive sports/rehabilitation.

 

Ability to provide assessments and create/direct group recreation activities.

 

ORGANIZATION

 

Reports to the Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation Services or the Manager of the Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit

 

May receive direction from the Director of Behavioral Health, Medical Director, therapy coordinators or lead counselor.

     No direct clinical contact with patients

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  1. Provides individualized treatment to patients and thorough assessment, planning, education, intervention, discharge planning and evaluation of outcomes.

 

  1. Develops, implements, and evaluates departmental recreational programs utilizing hospital and community facilities. This includes community re-entry and adaptive sports

 

  1. Conducts didactic lectures relating recovery process to activities and leisure time.

 

  1. Participates in annual competency assessment as well as customer evaluation, clinical staff dialogue, performance appraisals, and staff education.

 

  1. Documents application of the treatment process focusing on outcome criteria in accordance with hospital, departmental and regulatory agency requirements.

 

  1. Communicates with other members of the interdisciplinary health care team through case reviews to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.

 

  1. Identifies quality improvement needs and participates in implementing improvements.

 

  1. Conducts ongoing in-service and orientation training for hospital staff and the community.

 

  1. Maintains effective communications with patients, families, team members and managers as evidenced by mutual support, open communication, trust and support.

 

  1. Promotes good public relations with department personnel, physicians, other referral sources, patients, families and the community.

 

  1. Assumes responsibility for continuing education and professional development by attending required in-services and other means of continuing professional education (e.g., readings, classes, workshops).

 

  1. Keeps interdisciplinary team informed of activities, decisions and changes in patients’ treatment and/or progress.

 

  1. Adheres to all hospital and department policies.

 

  1. Monitors utilization of budgeted recreational resources.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.
