Job Summary:   
Develop and maintain the grounds through a regularly scheduled program of planting, cultivating, fertilizing and general upkeep.  Keep outside areas of the hospital safe for staff, patients and visitors by removing debris and snow when necessary

Perform a variety of general mechanical and preventive maintenance as well as inspecting.  Servicing and overhaul of equipment on facilities of the hospital.

  • Minimum Requirements: 
    High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of landscaping helpful. High school diploma plus two years experience in a field related to repair and maintenance of various types of equipment.

  • Work is performed in accordance with standard procedures or routines.  However, some operating freedom is used to organize work, set priorities and adapt to routine operational situations. 
  • Moderate analytical ability is required.
  • Typical analysis involves the application of basic scientific or technical principles and/or the interpretation and application of multiple policies.  Position requires the ability to concentrate or pay close attention to detail between 21% and 50% of the work time. 
  • Maintain safe working environment for self, other employees, patients, visitors and medical staff in accordance with applicable standards and procedures relevant to the position’s job duties. 
  • Position requires the responsibility for the operation or maintenance of complex equipment or systems.
  • Position requires the responsibility for the operation and/or maintenance of complex equipment or systems such as boilers, refrigeration, or the electrical plant. 
  • Working in hot boiler room, sewer lines, sump pits, hauling bio-hazardous waste.  Moving and transporting bodies to morgue. 
  • Must be able to work while being exposed to infectious disease, dust, noise, fumes/vapors, sharp instruments/tools, hazardous liquids and operating machinery.

Position Accountabilities:

Groundskeeper

  1. Plant, water, prune, and otherwise maintain flower-beds, shrubs, trees and lawns.
  2. Rake and remove fallen leaves.
  3. Sweep walkways and staircases.
  4. Keep drainage ditches and culverts free of obstructions.
  5. Maintain driveways and parking lots.
  6. Schedule and coordinate activities for the maintenance and care of the hospital grounds and adjoining property.
  7. Inspect grounds to ensure safe conditions and make recommendations for improvements.
  8. Prepare and grade terrain; seeds and/or sods lawns; transplant/plant shrubs, plants, and trees.
  9. Mow and trim lawns; repair established lawns; plan new lawns.
  10. Connect and maintain sprinkling equipment. Water lawns, flower beds/gardens, shrubs, and trees.
  11. Spray trees, shrubs, and plants and apply nutrients for lawn and plant growth.
  12. Clean grounds using rakes, brooms, and hose. Shovel, sweep, and remove debris from grounds.
  13. Inspect and perform minor repairs to equipment such as lawn mowers, sanders, and plows.
  14. Perform a variety of general maintenance duties as assigned.
  15. Plow snow and maintain parking lots and sidewalks in a safe manner during the winter months.

Maintenance Mechanic - Gaylord

  1. Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives and quality assurance, safety.
  2. Perform maintenance, repair or replacement of defective equipment.
  3. Use hand tools, power tools and testing instruments to repair and maintain machinery and equipment.
  4. Operate and maintain boilers, observe various meter and gauges and take appropriate action for safe operation.
  5. Test emergency generators and logs results, reaction, etc.
  1. Repair valves, fixtures and fittings in heating and drainage systems.
  2. Repair, install, replace and test electrical circuits, equipment and appliances using appropriate tools and testing equipment.
  3. Paint and redecorate walls, woodwork and fixtures of buildings and facilities using appropriate tools and techniques.
  4. Maintain driveways, parking lots and hospital grounds.
  5. Maintain department records, reports and files as required.
  6. Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings.
