Munson Medical Center’s Family Birth Center houses the 19-bed Maternity Unit, the 22-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and the Healthy Futures program.

The Family Birth Center features spacious, private birthing rooms where you and your baby will spend your stay in the hospital. Your room is fully equipped with the technical equipment needed to support your birth experience. Each room is large enough to allow your family to spend time with you and your baby and practice new parenting skills with the help of specially trained nurses. To support family learning and bonding, sleeping arrangements in the room can be made for one additional adult.

The Nurse Clinical Lactation Consultant (LC) at Munson Medical Center is a perinatal nurse who demonstrates clinical expertise, professional judgment and advanced knowledge about human lactation. The LC functions independently and collaboratively with members of the perinatal health care team to provide assistance and support to breastfeeding families.  The LC utilizes the nursing process to provide consultations for management of routine and complex breastfeeding situations during the perinatal period.  The LC acts as a coordinator, facilitator and resource person to nursing staff and physicians regarding breastfeeding problems and issues. 

WHAT YOU NEED

• An active Registered Nurse license in the State of Michigan
• Certification in the specialty area of practice is strongly encouraged
• Certification by the International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC)
