A Day in the Life
- This position is under the general supervision of the Manager of Cardiac Diagnostic Suite and Traverse Heart & Vascular and direct supervision of the Echocardiography Coordinator, in addition to the Director of Cardiology and the Medical Director of Cardiac Diagnostic Suite. Has a close working relationship with the cardiologists and medical staff and consistently comes in contact with members of the nursing staff.
- This position will be a service line position meaning that individuals selected for this position will be required to cover various sites within the Munson Healthcare Cardiovascular Service line. The service line includes Cardiac Diagnostic Suite at Webber Heart Center Traverse City, Traverse Heart & Vascular Traverse City, & Munson Healthcare Cadillac. There is a continuous working relationship with other members of the CDS team (medical staff, nursing staff and physician office staff).
- Performs routine STAT 2D Echocardiograms, M-mode and cardiac Doppler studies with direct supervision.
- Performs adult 2D Echocardiograms. M-mode, PW & CW Doppler, Color Spectral Doppler and Transesophageal Echocardiograms, with some exposure to pediatric patients.
- In addition, performs stress echocardiograms and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms.
- There are no supervisory or managerial responsibilities with the position, however, the Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist must teach the procedures to other designated staff. Maybe required to travel outside the hospital.
What’s Required
Ultrasonographer I
- HS Diploma or GED
- Completion of college or hospital based Vascular or Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or completion of Allied Health Program approved by the AMA.
Under 5 years’ experience in at least a single RDMS subspecialty (ABD, OB/GYN etc.)
Ultrasonographer II
- Must be a Registered Cardiovascular Diagnostic Sonographer (RDCS) or a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Also, must be registered or registry eligible in adult Stress Echo/Dobutamine Stress Echo and actively performing Stress Echo/Dobutamine Stress Echo.
- High School graduate or equivalent. Completion of college or hospital based Cardiovascular Program or Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or completion of Allied Health Program approved by the AMA.
- Must be able to do 2D Echocardiograms, M-mode, PW & CW Doppler, Color Spectral
- Doppler and Transesophageal echocardiogram on adults, with some exposure to pediatric patients. In addition, must be able to do stress echocardiograms and Dobutamine stress echocardiograms.
- Must have a minimum of 1 year of clinical experience performing Stress Echo/Dobutamine.
- Must be knowledgeable in the use of IV pumps and stress testing preparation.
- Certification in Adult Echo and skillset to perform TEE studies is highly preferred.
Ultrasonogragrapher III
- Registered Sonographer in both general (RDMS) and vascular (RVT) with 5 or more years’ vascular experience. Must have at least one RDMS subspecialty and is expected to perform both general and vascular exams during a work day. These technologists are knowledgeable of all ultrasound and vascular exams, exam protocols and exam charges and day to day operations of the department. This elevated designation represents our most highly skilled and knowledgeable sonographers and are expected to be mentors and teachers for all technologists.
- These sonographers must perform all exams as in Tech I and II and also including:
- Pseudoaneurysm injections. Vascular access guidance
- Operating room requests requiring either ultrasound and vascular knowledge.
Schedule: Variable schedule, up to 40 hours per week, weekend call rotation
