Summary: The Trauma Acute Care Surgery Advanced Practice Professional (APP) is a mid-level provider responsible for the medical management and coordination of care for patients under the Trauma Acute Care Surgery Service at Munson Medical Center. The APP works under the supervision of the attending general surgeon, applying clinical expertise and professional judgment in accordance with institutional protocols, physician preferences, and Michigan state law. The primary duties include assisting in trauma resuscitations, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic tasks, managing patients through their admission, and attending daily rounds. The APP is expected to be present promptly in trauma and critical care scenarios, support patient care in the resuscitative and post-operative phases and provide medical documentation such as history and physical exams, admission notes, and progress updates. In addition, the APP participates in Trauma Performance Improvement Committee meetings and provides night call coverage. The position also involves assisting with the Surgical Critical Care service under the direct supervision of intensivists, caring for critically ill patients, including neurocritical and stroke patients.

Ready to make a difference? Position Duties/Highlights Include:
- Responsible for the medical management and coordination of care for Trauma Acute Care Surgery patients under the supervision of the attending general surgeon.
- Assists in trauma resuscitations and performs advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks throughout the patient’s hospital stay.
- Available in the ER resuscitation area within 15 minutes for Level 1 Trauma and 30 minutes for Level 2 Trauma Team activations.
- Conducts history and physical exams, admission notes, and daily progress notes.
- Attends at least 50% of Trauma Performance Improvement Committee meetings.
- Provides night call coverage and participates in trauma and critical care patient management.
- Assists with the Surgical Critical Care service under intensivist supervision for critically ill patients, including neurocritical and stroke patients.
- Works collaboratively with the attending Emergency Physician during trauma resuscitations until the attending General Surgeon takes lead.
Standard Qualifications:
- Education / Training:
- Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies
- Work Experience:
- General Surgery experience is preferred but not required
- Previous experience in primary care, ICU or emergency setting is desirable.
- Certification, Licensure, Registration:
- State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required
- Current ACLS, PALS, ENPC, or APLS, BLS and ATLS. In addition to the current certifications to be maintained the Fundamentals of Critical Care Support (FCCS), Virtual Critical Care Rounds II (VCCR): Adult by the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Advanced Practice Provider Orientation Course, and Emergency Neurological Life Support Certification by Neuro Critical Care Society will also be required.
